Survival of the Fittest Group

I’ve heard Darwin’s theory of evolution described as one of the most dangerous ideas in human history–the idea that a single individual needs to fight against all others for its sole survival. That’s the problem with our Western culture today. Instead, thinkers who pre-dated Darwin suggested “survival of the fittest group” which provides for collaboration rather than conquering others. It’s great to see science finally begin to catch up with conscious awareness and prove that “survival of the fittest” is primitive …!

The Meditation Effect: Proving Meditating on Peace Works

Back in the 1990’s, the Transcendental Meditation program undertook an experiment to bring meditators to Washington DC to see if they could lower the crime rate.

Now called the “Meditation Effect” or the “Maharishi Effect”, the statistics proved that crime was significantly lowered by the presence of the meditators. Here’s how it worked:

In Washington DC on June 7th and July 30th 1993, a carefully controlled scientific study, later named the Maharishi Effect, monitored a group of 4000 Transcendental Meditation Practitioners over the course of two months in the DC area. The goal of this study was to prove or disprove that a collective consciousness of peace could reduce the crime rate in DC. During this time in history violent crimes had been steadily increasing, especially the last five months.

Many in the police force were skeptical of this study and its effects, however, within the first week of the study violent crimes began decreasing, and continued to drop with the maximum decrease at 23.3%. Once, the group disbanded the crime rate went back up. Is this more proof that we are literally controlling not only disclosure, but our connection to other humans and to the universe?

Scientists have started to embrace a possible new theory on how we are connected. The Electric Universe theory states that the formation and existence of the universe can be better explained by electricity and magnetism, than by gravity alone. It recognizes connections between diverse disciplines and the basic electrical nature of atoms and their interactions with each other.
