Remembering Ourselves

Isis Osiris

The story of the Egyptian gods Isis and Osiris teaches us how to remember ourselves.  As they ruled the world, Osiris’ jealous cousin Set murdered Osiris and scattered his body part along the Nile so that he could not be embalmed.  Isis, Osiris’ wife, turned herself into a bird and flew over the Nile, retrieving Osiris in pieces until she had all of him.  By putting his “members” (body parts) back to together, she re-membered him.  In this same way, we each put ourselves back together when we “remember” ourselves.
